I love diving into complex topics! But to design solutions for problems in a certain domain, I must spend some time understanding the different players - Outside your business and in it.
What are the tasks? How are they done today? How can my design improve the process?
I have conducted hundreds of interviews to this day and I use AI tools to enhance my research capabilities.
User research starts with talking to your users or target group. I script and moderate my interviews, record them and re-watch them to make sure every bit of important info is captured.
Further tagging and analyses with Dovetail is also possible.

Information

& navigation
The inner logic of your service: I will identify all the pieces of content, group them in logical order and create hierarchy which is clear and understandable to your users who will now be able to navigate through the pages. Testing and iterating will follow.
A challenging task I faced was the IA of an e-commerce platform’s product catalogue manager.

What's the status quo? What are the steps we want our users to take to reach their destination?
Journey mapping is a crucial step for me to understand and align with stakeholders so we all can agree on it, That's why I usually start the actual design process at this point.

I moderated several workshops with different stake-holders in large enterprises in order to draw the line between all departments.
Once the head-CS of ‘Compleet’ told me in a workshop, ‘You knew nothing about the HR industry, you are not a native German, and yet you managed to deliver an outstanding design. Big chapeau.”

One day I realised that presenting full designs to stake-holders eliminates the conversation. If they see a screen which appears complete, they are reluctant to provide feedback, hindering the conversation.
Sketches, mockups and lo and hi wireframes with the least amount of aesthetics possible will be created to have quick rounds of feedback with the business and the users.

A good design also needs to be implemented. Let's have the designs clean and clear and ready to be handed over to the development team, in a way which will avoid confusion and redundant questions.
This means all the screens, copy, states, modals, design system components and flows are all clear and easily found. Of course I'm available for any clarifications should they be needed.

Always a challenging aspect of development, and can easily become a double-edged sword.
But with my skills and experience, I will help the team navigate the design and code to be aligned, consistent and fast to implement.
